We joined Phil and Megan for a great walk in the upper Matukituki valley – destination a hanging glacier off the peak called Rob Roy ( 2644 m)
Began with a beautiful drive up the Matukituki valley

Setting out – before the rain began

The track crosses the Matukituki river and then heads steeply up the Rob Roy stream – a steady climb into misty light rain

First observation point for the glacier

Above the bush line we had light rain but still a reasonable view of the glacier above

HARD ROCK CAFE — we had a boil up for hot soups and managed to get some meager shelter from rain before we made our way back down the track to the vehicles again . All in all a great walk and love to revisit in summer.
