To Nantes , the end of our Loire ride ( days 20 – 22 )

We both enjoyed our days rest which at Saumur which was needed . Weather however was stormy and departing Saumur was a case in point . A big rolling thunder storm hit just about the time we were ready to leave . We waiting about 40 mins then made a dash for the patisserie

Fortunately the rains stopped and we enjoyed another magic day finally camping at a nice spot near Angers. Had a nice pool which we enjoyed .

Visiting Angers was slightly off the route however well recommended and we enjoyed the ride thru it’s cbd .

We passed the 1000 km point on our ride and I stopped at a bike shop to buy Barbs a small momento of her achievement. A new bike bell . Been handy , we have a bell messaging system. I ring twice to check if she’s just behind me . She acknowledges with 2 pretty chirps of her bell .

We headed next to a small castle town of Oudon on the Loire . Another excellent ride with lots to stops at interesting old churches etc .

A nice campsite at Oudon with a pleasant chilled Rose to enjoy before dinner.

Day 22 , our last day on the Loire had us heading towards and thru Nantes , a good sized very busy city . We eventually found a very nice cafe and joined the lunch crowd for a 3 course lunch . The French know how to eat well . It was our end of the Loire celebration

Our afternoon ride involved about 20 km to get to a campsite called Port Saint Pere, it’s a sort of direct route to the Atlantic coast which we will stay on as we head towards Bordeaux .

  1. I knew you were going to enjoy the many markets in France. I miss them so much! Even the smallest village seem to have one on random days, the end of the week always popular though. They go from food only to all sorts of clothing, pottery etc… Just as well you have an excuse for no extra weight allowance, otherwise you would be tempted to something more consistent than a bike bell. It’s pretty though ;-). Enjoy the Atlantic coast where weather will be no doubt better than here… sigh. Wet sigh. Well done on the 1k mark, amazing
