Our stay with John and Nancy and family was very lively and interesting . Day one I devoted to getting the Surly fully fixed and serviced . New rear tyre and a general drivetrain overhaul and new brake pads were the order of the day . Found and fixed 3 holes in backup inner tube ! Learned that old patches and old glue need to be ditched .
This was our southern most point in our adventure and here we turn back heading inland up towards St Malo and our ferry booked for the UK at months end .

Had a short ride with John to check out the immediate surrounds and see where one Charles Debats used to live and love . He was a famous warrior swordsman commonly known as D’ Artagnan , associated with the three musketeers . Apparently met his end in battle in his 60 ‘s

We took part in a community event that involved a 10 km walk meandering over local farmlands with about 100 locals and ended up with a wild boar spit roast lunch at the town centre of Castillon-Debats Debats .

The local walkers and bike riders all descended back to town and some serious refreshments began . Looked like everyone was having a great time , except for the pigs

Envious of your back country adventures and discovery. impressive knife! Better not forget to put it in the hold/ checked luggage on the plane. What is your itinerary back to St Malo? Passing through Nantes again at all or further East? Jeff is flying out next Monday.
Hi Isabelle .. we head towards Condom and Agen today then up to Saumur / Angers and on up . Just about ready to start again after a nice break here . The knife I’m worried about for our ferry crossing as some stories out there of confiscation happening at the ferry ports . I’ll pack it deep ! Pity we don’t get to see Jeff .
