Spent a couple of days in and around Bannockburn and Cromwell before heading towards Clyde and Alexandra – the towns that now is the starting point for a huge number of folk who come here to ride the Otago Rail Trial. A scenic trip of about 150 Kms that passes through a number of old towns and now forgotten rail stations. It has been embraced by the kiwis enjoying the adventure and by the communities who have made many businesses hiring the bikes , accommodating the cyclists on route and feeding the hunger that exercise dictates.
Getting real cold here now and the track is all but empty – we have made the arrangements to hire bikes – had a sample ride yesterday between Clyde and Alexandra for Barb to get permission from her Bum to complete the remaining 140+ Kms
Her bum said ” Yes ” and with her souvenir ride passport she has made her first stamp for the section Clyde to Alexandra . Overnight temps last night were 4.5 degrees c and even cooler weather forecast in the days ahead for this ride.
