Nagasaki has a vibrant nightlife centered round an area called Shianbashi. Has numerous spots to eat and drink and a large variety of options available.

Spent some time at “Kendall’s” – the one bar in Nagasaki where you are guaranteed to find English spoken. Owned and run by this tall American guy named Kendall and assisted by Peter- a young polish guy who also speaks English. Some the the locals enjoy visiting just for the opportunity to sharpen up their English language skills as it is where English speakers are likely to gravitate .

Kendall is an interesting guy – teaches philosophy and a bit of English at the local university. Japanese people are well aware of New Zealand and last night I was even shouted a drink on account of the fact that NZ had sent a rescue team to Japan after the big quake.
