Jack Frost pays a visit

A frosty start to the day – the price one must pay for wonderful sunny winter weather. Was 5 degrees in the van before I pressed the button and our 4 kW diesel heater fired up and shortly thereafter made it possible to face the day and prepare for the next ride. We slept warmly and well – no surprise , with a woman as hot as Barb – OK helped a little by the 100 mm duck down duvet !
Was Zero degrees outside and Barb was a little unhappy to see ice on her saddle. The sun melted this off by the time we hit the trail again – destination Ranfurly – a ride of about 50 km

Manuherikia Bridge- the start of the spectacular Poolburn Gorge

The Poolburn Viaduct

Barb riding strongly up the final incline to the highest point on the Trail – 618 metres – some faster riding as we descended towards Weddenburn and Ranfurley

Barb makes a stop at each historic station to get the stamp into her ride passport.
The day finished with me backtracking in the ute – which we had strategically placed in Ranfurley to hitch up and return with the 5th and we are presently parked up in the Ranfurley Motor Camp enjoying a stunning sunset. Barb is very upbeat about her ride – the thighs and knees a bit niggly but her Bum doesn’t hurt at all – unless she sits on the saddle – so there’s the rub eh!
Officially over half way and no more significant up hills to go .
