Gold rush Architecture from the late 1800’s Kalgoorlie

Just love these type of old Australian gold towns as some of this gold permanently remains in the form of great old pubs and also Churches. The same thing happens in modern day gold rushes except perhaps with the churches – hard now to get miners to give willingly for religious causes.

As I cycled in I saw a sign on the pub at Boulder saying , Skimpy’s here Monday to Saturday ” thought that Skimpy’s must be some prawn or shrimp item on the menu. Not so – the Skimpy is a lass who is happy to serve beer to men wearing only her underwear! This tradition has been part of the outback for many years but efforts are being made to tone it down and get the Skimpy’s into shorts at least . I guess the Skimpy’s are one way to keep a man at the bar drinking.
