Open day at Clubrooms and Virtual Reality cycle race

Our Kerikeri “Striders Inc” club had a great open day today ( sunday 19th June) – weather was threatening but in the end fine – even some warm sunshine during the spot prize giving after the family fun run.
Had about 60ish kids and some parents do the course.

All the kids got something and with spot prizes donated by New World and everyone seemed to have a ball.

these three were the fastest boys and fastest girl home. each won a free membership to the striders club which will be money saved with athletics season not far off ( from left Robbie King 2nd- Hannah watson 3rd and Jack Julius 1st)

The rowers were busy demonstrating the machines and I hear that the club attracted 9 new rowers into the club today.

It was a great spectacle as we had some of Kerikeri’s finest cyclists giving it everything on a short course – a mere 5.1 kms. Dave Hannan took out the prize for the fastest on the day with a time of 6.32 minutes. The prize was a big magnum of fine red wine with matching large goblet glasses. We plan to run this one again – the suggestion is a non pacer – one shot ride – to equalise the pacer advantage that comes with experience and time to set up pacer trains ( An Ueli speciality ) David is fronting with a suitable prize for the next time.

Some best times on this course are – royce 7.03 – stu- 7.00 – graham M 7.25 – bruce 6.39 – carl R 7.40 in running shoes! – janet 8.38 – david H 6.32 – and i think Ueli has a best of something like 6.17 ( not all times from today)
